Addiction is a mental disorder that greatly enslaves an individual in all facets of his or her life. Any form of dysfunction of the brain will eventually take full control of one’s life if not treated. This state of dysfunction takes away once freedom; his or her power to be in full control of his or her mental faculties. The powerlessness will create a disharmony and confusion as one is unable to meet human needs as well as function within the society. Addiction and mental illnesses reshape the brain in a way that the person does not have proper access to his or her body’s control panel. One’s reasoning and thoughts are impaired. This in turn dis-organises one’s behaviours creating interpersonal conflicts.
Mental illness does not consider your status in the community. Once the brain is altered anyone is a candidate. over the years, the world’s view of mental illnesses has improved and stigmatization is almost a thing of the past. Getting assistance in order to align with your capacity to function productively is the first step towards getting freedom from the disturbance that is slowing you down. Freedom is all about having control and choice over how you feel or what you do. It is not ideal to function in ways that one does not wish to and have no choice over it.
Every human deserves to have control of their mind and have control over their life. Humanity is about taping into one’s full potential and living in harmony while playing one’s part in building our society. Having a dysfunction in one’s brain chemistry does not mean letting the abnormalities take the wheel. There are medications and treatment plans designed to ease away the mental blockages that have been holding one back from being fully present in one’s own life.
